There have been few documentaries that have made me as introspective as this one. Perhaps it was because I feared this movie would be an extreme environmental activist documentary, which it turned out not to be. It followed the story of Daniel McGowen, a key player in several ELF operations. More than an examination of the ELF, this documentary examines activism itself and questions whether peaceful protest is the most effective means. It also examines how government responses to activism can add fuel to the fire through their torturous treatment of non-violent protesters. With activism (which in this case was branded terrorism), sometimes violent protest is a double-edged sword. (5 out of 5).
